Already at the first session of the People`s Liberation Committee of the City of Skopje, held in November 1944, attention was paid to the hygiene of the city, and the entire communal activity was immediately activated, from the arrangement to the cleaning of the streets and ruined houses. Thus, in the department for communal hygiene of the City of Skopje in 1944, already 243 workers with 43 carts, two sprinklers and one truck of three tons for feces were already working. In the following years, the number of motor vehicles has increased to 30 as a result of donated trucks by the army. These were mainly vehicles for waste disposal from the city.
After the liberation, in the composition of the existing department, there is also a wardrobe, a saddle and a mechanic workshop, for making and repairing the car. During this period, the communal hygiene department had 80 carts and 120 horses, six cisterns for exporting faeces and two cisterns for spraying the streets.
Due to the accelerated construction of the ruined city, the number of employees in 1964 increased to 413, and in 1971 to 503 employees.
It is important to note that in 1965, the fleet was accelerated, whereby five special hook vehicles and eight auto-cisterns under vacuum were washed for publicly-operated surfaces. In 1971, the number of vehicles was increased by five more hook vehicles, eight special vehicles for transporting the Škoda type garbage, seven auto-tanks and one vacuum cleaner for cleaning street surfaces. In the period from 1950 to 1968, in the already communal enterprise "City cleanliness", proper attention was given to the improvement of the living standard of the employees. Thus, 20 one-room apartments are built for the workers, an ambulance and a dining-room for a social food is being built, a resort in Pretor and a resort in Ulcinj, Montenegro, in which the employees and their families spent and rested.
